Common Zoom problems and how to fix them.
Zoom gives you the option of how you connect your audio when you’re joining a meeting. You can connect via your computer’s audio, or by dialing into a phone number. You should choose the option that gives you the best sound quality, but only choose one, otherwise you’ll experience unwanted echo.
Make sure to check that your microphone isn’t picking up sound from your speaker if you are using an external speaker. Echo can also occur if you’re too close to another person who is on the same Zoom call. One of the most controllable things you can do to improve audio quality during a Zoom meeting is to check your proximity.
Too close to the microphone can make your voice sound muffled and accentuate all sorts of unwanted breathing and saliva noises.
If you sit too far away, you risk being drowned out. If you’re using a microphone built into your computer or webcam, you should position yourself within two feet of it.
With an external microphone, the ideal position should be about six inches away. Zoom, in its default settings enables a suite of sound enhancements to dumb down background noise.

Unfortunately the issue of glitching sound only affects my laptop. It doesn’t matter whether there are just two of us on the zoom, or ten. The same thing happens. I’ve tried different times of the day, still the same. Same issue for me and I’m a teacher!
It broke up my classroom twice today. This happens on two different laptops both with the Zoom requirements fully met and running Windows 8. This happens in meetings of multiple sizes and I’m hearing from my students that a few of them have the same issue.
It happens when I log in directly from their website, use our in-school login or use the Zoom app. It began after the June 1 updates. I never had that error message prior to that, even though we’ve been using Zoom since mid-March. Just one thing I’ve been trying which seems to have worked so far is to run the laptop just off battery power when using zoom. Interestingly, the issue only happens with the power supply connected. Just thought I’d share in case it helps you out temporarily until we can work out a permanent fix.
I am having this very same issue and it only began after investing into a brand new Lenovo laptap with intel core i5 8th Gen. My old laptop was a Core i3 and no problems with Zoom. I am an online teacher and this is really making things difficult. I use Zoom and powerpoints and videos.
NEVER a problem until using the new laptop. So weird! I love my laptop because it so much faster and smoother with all other apps and platforms except Zoom :. I am happy that I’m not alone. Let’s see how that goes. Unfortunately I haven’t found a permanent fix to this yet. There MUST be something underlying causing this issue, but no-one seems to be able to help.
I even raised this as an issue with the zoom team, but they are prioritising support for their paid-service customers, so closed my issue immediately. The only thing that has worked for me is using zoom with the power supply cable disconnected. Not ideal, but it seems to work for short term zoom calls. Really hoping someone can come up with a permanent fix for this too, as it is just so frustrating!
I totally sympathise with you. PS – we also bought two other similar slightly lower spec HP Pavilion laptops at the same time as my one for our twin daughters and they work fine, which leads me to think this is something specific to the model we have Scroll down to see how to perform them. When you find that Zoom audio refuses to work in Windows 10, please first try restarting your computer. Restarting a computer can remove the unknown causes that lead to the issue.
Check if audio is muted on your computer. If there is a slash on the audio icon, it means that the audio is muted and you can unmute it by clicking the audio icon. It is convenient to use the Volume icon on the taskbar to change the sound volume.
But this icon is missing from Win 10 taskbar. Therefore, try enabling the Join Audio option. Step 2: Look at the bottom-left corner and then click the Join Audio option. If the microphone that you are using is corrupted, which impeding Zoom audio from not working in Windows So, switch to another microphone. Step 1: Launch Zoom and select the Settings option from the drop-down menu in the top right corner. Step 2: Go to the Audio button on the left side and then select the connected Microphone from the drop-down menu under the Microsoft section.
After that, tick all boxes except Mute my microphone when joining a meeting.
